The event will educate students, faculty, and staff about the current status of the uninsured children in Harris County and the City of Houston. With one of the highest numbers of uninsured children in the nation, the future health care system and methods of payment continue to be crucial for the next election. Panelists will give a broad overview on current government programs available for uninsured children, and discuss
 the merits and drawbacks of various proposals. Also, a representative from Texas Children’s Hospital will discuss some of the economic consequences of having a large uninsured population. Panelists will be Dr. Mortensen (moderator)
, a professor of political science at Rice University, Sherea McKenzie, Executive Director of Joint City/County Commission of the Mayor’s Office, and Rosie Valadez, Director of Government Relations for Texas Children’s Hospital.
