At this Shell Distinguished Lecture Series event, filmmaker and activist Chris Paine will talk about his groundbreaking documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?" (2006). His lecture will trace how his group evolved from activism to cinema, and describe the behind-the-scenes making of the film. The event will also include a discussion about the history and potential role for electric cars, as well as a preview of his upcoming documentary. Paine previously served as executive producer on "Faster," with Ewan McGregor, about the world's fastest motorcycle race, and "No Maps For These Territories," about science fiction writer William Gibson. He also produced for the MTV series "BUZZ" and assisted writer Michael Tolkin on the feature film "The Player." Television appearances include "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" (2006) and "Nightline" (2009). Paine studied documentaries with Jon Else at Stanford University and theater at the Neighborhood Playhouse with Sanford Meisner. He received his degree in international relations from Colgate University. There are a limited number of seats (125). If interested, please RSVP to bisf@rice.edu as soon as possible!
